2021 Christmas Home Tour and Holiday Home Blog Hop

My 2021 Christmas home tour. This year I focused on utilizing simple decor to create a cozy atmosphere in a large open space.

This is our second Christmas in our new home. The first year we were still unpacking and settling into the house. While I loved the coziness of the space, I still felt pretty stressed. This year I focused on using simple and stress-free decor. My goal was to create a cozy atmosphere in the main living area of our home. This is the perfect spot for enjoying a glass of wine while watching my favorite Hallmark movies in the glow of the Christmas lights.

2021 Christmas Home Tour

Christmas Home Tour – Living Room

The living room is where we spend most of our time in the evening. We watch play or watch movies here after dinner. We get a real tree every year for the main living room tree. It’s one of our family Christmas traditions. We’ve all been sick, so we’re waiting until we feel better to hang ornaments on the tree. My girls love hanging the ornaments and then rearranging them throughout the holiday season. I adjusted my expectations for tree decorating in recent years. Now, instead of going all out on the perfect tree, I just let the kids decorate with shatterproof ornaments. It doesn’t matter what the tree looks like, it just matters the memories that we made decorating it.

My oldest daughter is a creature of habit, so she insisted that I put our small tree downstairs with the big tree again this year. We like the overtly festive vibes of two trees in our house. Usually, this tree is done in a Star Wars theme, but I wanted to keep it more simple this year.

The Stockings

The new house doesn’t have a fireplace, so we don’t have a mantel for stockings. However, this little cut-out into the playroom works as the perfect spot to hang stockings. Our stockings are one of my favorite decorations and traditions. My grandmother made me a beautiful appliqued stocking when I was a kid. I’ve kept that stocking and used it for almost my entire life. When I started having children I decided to create appliqued stockings for them too. I also made one for my husband so he wouldn’t be left out.

The stockings are made using Bucilla felt stocking kits. The kits are like paint by number but with felt, sequins and stitching. They are so fun and special! I love handmaking Christmas decorations for our home. It makes them feel even more special.

Coffee Table Styling

I styled the coffee table with a lovely tray from the 2021 Winter Decocrated box. Since we get a real tree I like to incorporate the branches and clippings into my decor. I added a few to a bowl with a few small ball ornaments. I also added a little winter-themed art and a cute little wooden squirrel. I’m obsessed with the painted wooden animals from this Decocrated box!

Christmas Home Tour – The Kitchen

I opted for keeping the kitchen very simple this year. I styled a tray in the center of our island with a vase of fresh Christmas tree clippings. Alongside that is a stack of faux books tied up in festive ribbon and a small candle. It’s so understated but beautiful.

The handbuilt bar in our kitchen acts as my faux mantel throughout the year. I styled this space with a lot of pieces from Decocrated as well. The black lantern and ceramic trees are from the 2019 Winter box. The wooden houses are from the 2020 Winter collection. The faux tree is a Target find from a few years ago, but the wood bead garland is from the 2021 Fall collection. I’m obsessed with the small fairy lights on the bar. They were only $5 at Target! The lights tie everything together but are visually lighter than traditional Christmas lights. Plus, they are battery-operated! That means no cords!

Above the bar, I hung some Christmas tree art. I added black cardstock to help the trees stand out more. I also painted a bit of snow on the black cardstock using a white paint pen. The final piece for this vignette was the simple hoop wreath. It’s also from the 2021 Winter collection.

The Banister

Our banister also got a bit of Christmas love! I hung a simple garland with some Christmas lights down the length of the banister. Then I added my Christmas card banner as the final layer. I made this banner a few years ago using Christmas cards from my childhood. Some of them are from grandparents that are no longer with us. Others are just pretty and fun. I love incorporating sentimental pieces into my holiday decorations!

My Christmas Mom Cave

I can’t wrap up this Christmas home tour without showing off my Mom Cave. This space functions as an office and guest room in my house. I’m a big Marvel fan, so I created a Marvel Christmas tree for my space.

I also styled a few of my Marvel LEGO Minifigures with some Christmas houses for a fun Marvel Christmas village. love sitting in the glow of my nerdy tree and either blogging or reading.
