Ingredients for a Frozen Pineapple Coconut Margarita
- Frozen Pineapple Chunks – Frozen fruit is ideal for frozen cocktails because it enhances the fruity flavor and doesn’t water down the drink. If you don’t have frozen pineapple, freeze a few cups of fresh pineapple overnight.
- Tequila – Silver tequila, also called blanco tequila, is the best tequila for this fruity cocktail. Silver tequila has a stronger, clearer taste than gold tequila so it doesn’t mask any of the flavors. Coconut tequila is also a great alternative. Skip any additional coconut flavoring if you use a flavored tequila! (Los Sundays makes a great coconut tequila.)
- Triple Sec – Orange liqueur, like Triple Sec or Grand Marnier, adds a touch of sweetness and orange flavor to a margarita. It helps balance the flavors of the tequila and lime juice.
- Lime Juice – No margarita is complete without fresh lime juice. It adds a distinct margarita flavor and a bit of bright, citrus to the drink.
- Pineapple Juice – For the most pineapple flavor use pineapple juice in your pina colada margarita. Canned pineapple juice is my go-to, but fresh pineapple juice or bottled juice also works.
- Cream of Coconut – This coconut product is a sweetened, syrup-like coconut product. It’s ideal for maximum coconut flavor in cocktails and coconut drinks. Many grocery stores carry cream of coconut in a squeeze bottle, which is perfect for use in many cocktails over a longer time. You could also substitute coconut milk or coconut cream in a pinch. Cream of coconut eliminates the need for agave nectar or simple syrup.
- Ice – Add a handful of ice to help achieve a slushie consistency for this cocktail.

How to Make a Frozen Pineapple Coconut Margarita
This frozen margarita recipe contains simple ingredients, but it feels like you’re poolside at an all-inclusive resort. All you need is a blender to whip up your own.
Step One – Add tequila, triple sec, lime juice, pineapple juice, cream of coconut, and frozen pineapple chunks to a blender.
Step Two – Add a handful of ice cubes to the blender. Then firmly place the lid on the blender. Blend until the cocktail reaches the consistency of a slushie. Add more ice as needed.
Step Three – Pour the frozen margarita into a glass with a Tajin rim or a toasted coconut rim.
Garnish with a fresh pineapple wedge and a pineapple leaf.

What Type of Glass Do I Use?
- Margarita glass – Margarita glasses are ideal for frozen margaritas. They have a stem and a wide mouth. The stem allows you to hold the cocktail without it melting from the warmth of your hands.
- Short tumbler – Not everyone has a set of margarita glasses at home. So a short tumbler, or rocks glass, is also great for a margarita.
How to Rim a Glass with Tajín
Many margaritas are served in salt-rimmed cocktail glasses. Adding salt to the rim of the glass enhances the flavor of a good margarita. It also adds a fun and beautiful touch to the drink. This cocktail uses a Tajin seasoning rim instead. Tajín is a Mexican spice mix made with lime, chili peppers, and salt. Tajin rims are ideal for sweet, tropical margaritas. Coconut flakes are also great for a tropical margarita.
First, run a lime wedge along the edge of the glass. This creates a wet and sticky surface for the salt and Tajin to stick to.
Next, flip the glass upside down and place it in a small plate of margarita salt, Tajin, or coconut. Margarita salt is a coarse salt made of bigger salt flakes. So they are more visible. It also has a better flavor.

Another option is to add Tajin to a smaller area of the class. Rub a wedge of lime on a quarter of the glass, then roll that section of the glass in the Tajin. This method looks gorgeous but also means you control whether or not you get Tajín in each sip.
Can I Make These Frozen Margaritas In a Big Batch?
Margaritas are the perfect big-batch cocktail and you can make them in advance! Multiply the ingredients by the number of guests you wish to serve. Then mix all the ingredients in a large blender. Transfer the frozen margaritas to a large pitcher or serve them directly from the blender!

This Coconut Pineapple Margarita is the perfect tropical escape, even if you’re at home with take-out tacos.
