Learn how to make a tie blanket using two pieces of fleece fabric. The blanket can be any size, color, or pattern. And best of all?! It doesn’t require any sewing!
I’ve been a bit behind, but I really wanted to participate in Decor and the Dog, Newly Woodwards, Maybe Matilda and Two Twenty One‘s holiday linky party Dare to DIY, especially since these ladies are some of my favorite bloggers! This week’s challenge was Dare to Give Handmade, which is something I really used to do as a poor college student! One year I made some no-sew tie fleece blankets for my mother and for Jesse, they were a big hit so I want to share them with you today. It’s technically my first ever DIY project, so it’s definitely blog-worthy! 😉
How To Make a Tie Blanket
The blanket was made with a few yards of fleece from Wal-Mart in two different patterns. I used a solid and a plaid pattern. I cut 5 inch strips all around the edges, making sure all of my strips lined up nicely. Then I tied them into double knots.
The blanket is super soft and warm and it keeps it’s shape after washing and drying.
If you’re looking for a thoughtful gift on a budget, this could be the way to go! Fleece really isn’t very expensive and the whole project only took me about an hour. Plus this really is the gift that keeps on giving, no one can have enough blankets!
Have you ever made a handmade gift for someone? What was it? I’m always looking for ideas!
soo cute! I love that fleece and you can never have enough blankets 🙂
You really can’t have enough blankets. That pink flannel is cute! Thanks for joining the Dare to DIY this week!
Very cute! I love the flannel you chose, too!
So cute! I have to have a blanket on my body at all times from October to March. And how cute is that plaid fleece? Love it!
Ooh I love a good thick fleecy blanket! Great gift idea!
We were given a blanket similar to this as a baby shower gift and we just love it! It travels really well too. 🙂
This is such a great gift. And I love that you can make it personalized by choosing fleece patterns that are perfect for the recipient. And these really are the warmest blankets.
Thanks so much for linking up to Dare to DIY!
I’ve made one of these for my hubby too! haha. They are great and so warm!
I love these blankets! My mom made me one years ago and I still use it.
LOVE the plaid!!! I made one of these for my niece when she was born – I used a cute duck pattern for one side and bright yellow for the other. 🙂
We keep our house pretty cold by most peoples standards, so blankets are always a welcome gift!
Handmade gifts I think are fun to make and receive. I like your no sew fleece blanket , the colors would go in any room for a baby right up to an adult

Such a great project! One of my sorority sisters gave me a blanket in our colors and it’s my favorite one in the world to curl up with! Now if it would only get cold enough down here to need blankets!
Ha! We’ve got a warm front going through VA right now too. It was 73 out today!
you can never, ever have enough blankets! I have two draped over each of our couches and I am always looking for more!
Love the fabric you chose! & one can never have too many blankets lol… great idea 🙂
What a great way to make a blanket! I can’t sew, but I can definitely tie knots 🙂 Love the colours of your man cave blanket 🙂
I’m planning to make some foil paintings to give as gifts this year.
I love giving and getting homemade gifts…especially the older that I am getting. They mean so much more. With all the things I have attempted to make, I have NEVER tried to make a no sew blanket and now I want to. AND, I love the plaid print you picked. I am sure the year you made these, they were definitely appreciated.
We have always made homemade gifts for people. I am so fortunate that Brawn can build most anything and this year is no different. He and his elves have a huge to do list.
hand made holidays are the best , I think.
