Ingredients

  • Oreos: You’ll need to separate the two halves of an Oreo and remove the icing to make the brim of the witches’ hat cookies. They look more like hats with a thinner brim. You could also use Oreo Thins instead of regular Oreos.
  • Hershey’s Kisses: A Kiss acts as the body of the hat. You can use milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or any other flavor of Hershey’s Kiss you prefer.
  • Icing: Grab a premade icing in a fun color for Halloween to use to attach the Kisses to the cookies and make the “ribbon” around the base of the kiss. Around Halloween, many stores carry orange, green, and purple icings.
  • Sprinkles: Any Halloween-themed sprinkles work great for these witch hat cookies! I used the sprinkles from the Fancy Sprinkles Witch and Famous Halloween Cocktail Decorating Kit for mine.

Substitutions and Variations

  • Use Other Cookies: You don’t have to use Oreos to make witch hat cookies with Hershey Kisses; any thin cookie base will work. Try fudge-striped cookies, Thin Mints, chocolate chip cookies, or peanut butter cookies instead!
  • Try Decorating Differently: Instead of covering the hat with sprinkles, add one mini M&M to make a buckle for the ribbon around the hat. You could also use a bow-shaped candy to make a more coquettish witch hat.
  • Use Candy Melts Instead of Icing: Dip the bottom quarter of the Kiss into colorful melted chocolate and promptly stick it to your cookie base. This creates the “ribbon” without piping on icing.
  • Color Your Icing: If you can’t find the right color of icing, grab some gel food coloring and make your own!
  • Add Some Sparkle: I love to add a little glitter to my festive treats! Use an edible glitter pump and give your decorated witch hat cookies a little sparkle.

How to Make Witch Hat Cookies

The best part about these fun witch hats cookies is how easy they are to assemble! All you need is a decorating bag and frosting tip, and your 4 ingredients.

Step 1: Separate the Oreos. First, divide your Oreos into two cookies and use a butter knife or small scraper to remove the filling.

Step 2: Attach the Kisses. Fill a decorating bag with your icing and pipe the icing onto the bottom of the Kiss. Cover the bottom with icing and gently press it onto the Oreo.

Step 3: Add a Border. Carefully pipe the icing around the base of the Hershey Kiss to create a ribbon around the hat.

Step 4: Decorate with Sprinkles. Add the sprinkles to the icing and carefully shake off any excess. Finish with a spritz of edible glitter.

Serve these cookies with a savory dip, like Buffalo chicken dip, at your party and a Black Magic margarita for the grown-ups.

Tips for Making These Witch’s Hat Cookies

  • Prepackaged Icing Saves Time: Many stores sell prepackaged icing bags for decorating cookies and cakes. These are easier to use than a piping bag and make clean up a breeze. If you don’t decorate cakes or cookies often, I recommend using these!
  • Use A Lot of Icing: You want to fully cover the bottom of the chocolate candy with icing. The frosting should squeeze out of the sides a bit. This ensures that the chocolate Kiss stays in place after the icing sets.
  • Grab Extra Oreos: You will inevitably break a cookie during assembly, so be sure you have some extras on hand!
