Create this cute and simple Valentines Day garland using red felt and a Cricut. It’s the perfect festive touch for your February home decor.
Decorating for Valentine’s Day is an easy way to make the holiday feel extra special. You don’t need to go all out with the decor either. Just a few simple touches, like pink flowers and a few red hearts, make all the difference.
This DIY felt heart Valentines Day garland is simple but adorable. I added glitter to make it sparkle too. And it’s even easier to make if you have a Cricut! That saves time, and hand cramps, from cutting the hearts by hand.

Valentines Day Garland Tutorial
My life became so much easier the day I discovered that I can use my Cricut Maker to cut felt! The Cricut Maker, Maker 3, and Explore all cut felt! The Cricut Rotary Blade is the best blade for cutting fabric.

Create the Heart Garland Design in Cricut Design Space
First, find a heart SVG that you like in Cricut Design Space. I used this file. Adjust the hearts to your desired size. Mine are 4 inches tall. At this size I fit 6 hearts on each sheet of felt. Once the hearts are sized correctly, click “Make It” in the upper right hand corner.
A pop-up will appear asking “How will you load all of your materials for this project?” Select “On Mat” because the felt is attached to a mat.
Next, select the material. For this project, click the Felt box. Then change the pressure to Harder.
To switch out the cutting blade, select “Edit Tools.” Then, under “Tool Options” select Rotary Blade. Load the Rotary Blade into your machine.
Cutting Felt with the Cricut Maker
Add the felt to a fabric grip mat. Use a brayer or roller to ensure the felt adheres to the mat well.
Press the flashing arrows button on the Cricut Maker to load the mat and felt. Then, press the flashing “C” icon.

Once the hearts have finished cutting, press the arrows button to unload the mat from your machine. Peel the felt off your mat. Some areas may still be stuck together. Or the edges may look a little frayed. If that happens, use scissors to trim any messy edges. Don’t throw away your felt scraps!

Decorate the Hearts for Your Valentines Day Garland
Next, lay out the felt hearts. Use glue to draw a slightly smaller heart within each felt heart. Sprinkle red glitter over the glue. Shake off any excess. Wait a few hours for the glue to completely dry!

Once the glue is dry, grab your felt scraps. Cut out small rectangles using the scraps. The rectangles should be about 2 inches long and 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide. Hot glue two rectangles vertically to the back of each heart. Place them several inches apart, at the thickest parts of the hearts. The rectangles need to be level with each other. This creates loops to hold the string. Allow the hot glue to set.

Finally, thread the twine through each loop. Arrange the hearts evenly-spaced along the twine.

Tie a small loop at either end of the twine. Hang the Valentines Day garland on the mantel or wall using thumbtacks or small Command hooks.
I hung my heart garland with a felt ball and wood bead garland from Target. I got it on clearance after the holidays. It’s great for both Christmas and Valentine’s Day.
