What Is a Tie Fighter?

TIE Fighters are small fighter ships flown by Imperial pilots in the Star Wars films. The ships have a round cockpit in the center with two vertical wings on either side. Any Star Wars fan immediately recognizes a TIE fighter when they see one. These cheesy cracker snacks mimic the shape of the Empire’s fighters.

Ingredients for TIE Fighter Cheese and Crackers

  • Octagonal Crackers: Crackers with flat sides stand up better than round crackers, so they are ideal for this snack. Most grocery stores have a variety of octagonal crackers. I used Ritz Cheese Crispers to create my little TIE Fighters.
  • Cheddar Cheese Cubes: Cut cheddar cheese into 1-inch cubes to use for the cockpit of the starships. Purchase precut cheese cubes or make your own. You can add a little variety to your cheese and crackers by using different cheeses like Pepper Jack, Colby Jack, or mozzarella cheese.
  • Mayonnaise: You will need something to act as glue for the cheese and cracker wings. I used mayonnaise to hold mine together, but cream cheese or melted cheese works well, too.

How to Make TIE Fighter Cheese and Crackers

Create these little TIE Fighter cheese and cracker snacks in just a few minutes. They are the perfect little snack for any wannabe space pilot.

Step One: First, lay a cracker face down on a serving platter or plate. Add a tiny dollop of mayonnaise or cream cheese to the center of the cracker. Then, place a cube of cheese on top of the mayonnaise.

Step Two: Apply a small dot of mayonnaise to the center of the cheese cube. Then, lay another cracker face down on top of the cheese.

Step Three: Repeat this step until you have enough Star Wars cracker snacks. Then place the snacks in the freezer for 2-5 minutes. Freezing the crackers makes the mayonnaise harder and adheres it better to the cheese and crackers.

Serve the TIE Fighter cheese and crackers standing up on a fun Star Wars snack board or together on a serving platter.

Storing Leftovers

Store these festive Star Wars crackers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. The cold air keeps the cheese from melting, but the crackers will get stale after being in the refrigerator for too long.
