No need to ask your magic mirror what cocktail to make for your Halloween parties this year! This spooky Poison Apple Cocktail, featuring apple cider, sour apple, and caramel vodka, is sure to spellbind your guests.

The Evil Queen from Snow White inspired this delicious appletini with a dripping poison rim. The drink is sweet and a little sour, but perfectly balanced in flavor. It tastes like a caramel apple, but looks like a witch’s brew. It’s the perfect low-effort cocktail for Halloween parties or at-home movie nights.

Why You’ll Love This Poison Apple Cocktail

  • Only 4 Ingredients: This spooky appletini is made with only 4 simple-to-find ingredients: caramel vodka, sour apple liqueur, apple cider, and lemon juice. It’s perfect for any at-home bartender, no matter their skill level.
  • Sweet and Sour Flavor: This cocktail is both sweet and a little sour, like a candy apple, but it isn’t overwhelming.
  • Perfect for Parties: Since this cocktail is so simple, it’s the ideal option for Halloween parties. You won’t be stuck behind the bar all night or spend a lot of time mixing difficult ingredients.

Ingredients

  • Caramel Vodka: This delicious candy-flavored vodka is perfect for fall and Halloween cocktails. It brings a delicious flavor to apple and chocolate drinks.
  • Sour Apple Pucker: This bright green sour apple liqueur is perfect for a colorful and flavorful Halloween cocktail. It’s the ideal amount of sour.
  • Apple Cider: Cut the sourness of the cocktail with the sweetness of apple cider. This also dilutes the potency of the cocktail.
  • Lemon Juice: Balance all of the flavors of this simple poison apple cocktail with a splash of acidity from freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  • Green Edible Glitter: Amplify the color of this Poison Apple cocktail, and give it an enchanted sparkle, with a bit of edible green glitter. My favorite brand is Fancy Sprinkles, but any brand of edible glitter would work. You could also use green food coloring instead.

Variations

  • Make It a Mocktail: If you want to make this fun drink for kids, or for an alcohol-free crowd, leave out the vodka and the Sour Apple Pucker. Instead, combine apple cider, lemon juice, and a splash of Sprite with green edible glitter to make an electric green mocktail.
  • Change Up the Spirit: You can use regular vodka or a white rum instead of caramel vodka to make this poisoned apple cider cocktail more to your taste. Rum pairs well with apple cider in fall cocktails.
  • Create a Red Version: Try using cranberry juice or pomegranate juice in place of apple cider and skip the sour apple liqueur. You can use an orange liqueur or pomegranate liqueur so the drink remains red. Add a little red edible glitter to make this a red poison apple Halloween cocktail.

How to Make a Poison Apple Cocktail

This poison apple cocktail recipe is an easy drink for a Halloween party or scary movie night at home. You’ll need a cocktail shaker, plus the four ingredients and some edible glitter.

Step One: Add the Ingredients to the Shaker. Pour caramel vodka, Green Apple Pucker, apple cider, lemon juice, and green edible glitter into a cocktail shaker.

Step Two: Add Ice and Shake. Add a handful of ice to the shaker. Then firmly place the lid on the cocktail shaker. Shake for 30 seconds to combine the cocktail ingredients and chill them.

Step Three: Strain and Serve. Strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe glass with a black rim. Garnish with apples, or skip the garnish for the decorated rim.

What Type of Glass Do I Use?

  • Martini Glass: This cocktail glass has a large bowl that tapers into a “V” shape. The wide bowl helps you smell the cocktail as you drink it, which enhances the flavor. The narrow bottom also helps keep the ingredients from separating.
  • Coupe Glass: These glasses are similar to martini glasses, but without the narrow bottom. They have a long stem that helps the cocktail stay cold, so you don’t warm the glass with your hands.

How to Add the Dripping “Poison” Rim

Nothing beats a fun rim for a Halloween cocktail! I added a black dripping “poison” rim to make this look like a Snow White poison apple cocktail. The dripping rim is made from corn syrup that I dyed black.

  • Combine Corn Syrup and Food Coloring: Slowly stir together a tablespoon of corn syrup with a few drops of black gel food coloring. Regular food coloring is too thin and will thin out the corn syrup.
  • Drip the Syrup Around the Glass: Slowly use a spoon or baking pipettes to drip the mixture around the outside rim of the glass.
  • Pop in the Freezer: Immediately place the decorated glass in the freezer. This will freeze the corn syrup in place so it doesn’t continue to drip down the glass.

Tips

  • Chill Your Cocktail Glass: A cold cocktail glass helps keep this drink chilled as you drink it without diluting it with ice. Place the glass in the freezer for at least 20 – 30 minutes.
  • Equipment Used to Make the Drink: All you need to make this poisoned apple cocktail are a cocktail jigger and a cocktail shaker.
  • Try Using Beakers and Test Tubes: Give this drink an extra festive and spooky look by serving it inside of test tubes or science beakers. Be sure the glassware is food-safe to avoid ingesting unsafe substances.

What to Serve with This Poison Apple Cocktail

This poisoned apple cocktail is the perfect Halloween party drink! It’s a little sweet and a little sour, so it pairs well with a variety of flavors. Your guests will love sipping on this cocktail as they snack on savory dips or spooky desserts!

Batching and Storing

This cocktail is great for batching! Multiply your ingredients by the number of guests you need to serve and pour them into a large pitcher. Keep the pitcher in the refrigerator to keep it chilled until it’s time to serve the poison apple cocktail. Stir the pitcher with a large spoon before pouring the cocktails into chilled glasses.
