Oreo Mummies – Fun, Easy Halloween Treats

Oreo mummies are the perfect Halloween treat! They are fun, spooky, and simple. Create your own mummy Oreos at home in less than 10 minutes!

Mummy Oreos are one of my family’s favorite Halloween spooky treats! I mean, who doesn’t love Oreos? These mummy Oreo cookies are easy to make, but they look festive for Spooky Season. Create a batch at home with three simple ingredients: delicious Oreo cookies, rich vanilla icing, and candy eyes.

Oreo mummies for a Halloween snack.

Oreo mummies are excellent for spooky movie nights or Halloween parties. But they are also a fun snack to accompany a school lesson on mummies and Ancient Egypt.

I also used Mummy Oreos for my Mummy Snacks Board to celebrate the premiere of Marvel’s Moon Knight on Disney Plus!

What You Need to Make Oreo Mummies

  • Oreos – Use regular Oreos or any flavor Oreo sandwich cookies you prefer for these treats. The dark brown color of Oreos looks best contrasted against the white “mummy wrappings.”
  • Icing – Vanilla icing in a piping bag is the simplest way to create these mummy cookies. Or simply purchase cookie icing. It is already packaged in a squeezable bag with a small tip.
  • Candy Eyeballs – Little candy eye sprinkles are available at Target and most craft stores during the Halloween season.

How To Make Oreo Mummies

These mummy cookies are one of the most easy recipes!! They are ready in less than 10 minutes. That makes them the perfect snack for kids, or an easy dessert for a Halloween party.

Step One – Arrange Oreos in rows on a sheet of parchment paper or wax paper. Space them out a bit, allowing an inch of space around each cookie.

Step Two – Using a pastry bag, place a small dot of icing on the back of each candy eye. Then stick two eyes on every Oreo. Place the eyes near the top of the cookie so they look like eyes on a face.

Step Three – Pipe vanilla icing in a zig-zag motion across the Oreos. The zig-zag icing patterns create the look of a wrapped mummy. Feel free to add additional lines of frosting to fill in space on the cookies. It’s best to continue the icing off the sides of the cookie. It gives the mummies a more wrapped appearance.

Step Four – Let the icing set for about 3-5 minutes. Then transfer the cookies from the parchment paper to a plate in a single layer.

Step Five – Serve them on a fun plate or serving dish. If you’re serving the cookies at a Halloween party let the icing set more firm before stacking them. The quickest way is to place the cookies in the refrigerator for a few minutes.

Substitutions for Mummy Oreos

If you don’t like Oreos *gasp* or want to use something other than icing, consider a few of these substitutions.

  • Oreos – Substitute Oreos for your favorite cookie, like peanut butter, chocolate chip, or sugar cookies. You can make a mummy out of anything!
  • Icing – Instead of using vanilla frosting or icing, consider using melted white chocolate. White candy melts or melting chocolates are a great alternative to icing. Melt the white chocolate on the stove using a double boiler, or in the microwave. If you use the microwave, heat the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl on low power in 20-second increments so it doesn’t seize. Then drizzle the chocolate in a zig-zag pattern over the cookies with a spoon. Another benefit to white chocolate drizzles is they set harder. So it’s easier to stack mummy Oreos with white chocolate wrapping.
  • Candy Eyes – If you can find candy eye sprinkles, use mini chocolate chips for the eyes! White chocolate chips work even better. Especially with a little mini chocolate chip stuck to the top. They look a little less fun but still make for a cute Halloween treat.
