Well, we’ve officially hit the season where time just FLIES by. I feel like I blinked and October was over! We fit a lot of fun into the month though, like pumpkin picking, Busch Gardens, baking all of the pumpkin goodies, the Harry Potter event at a local bakery and fall festivals. Here’s my October 2019 favorites!

I make these Pumpkin Spice Chocolate Chip cookies every fall and they are just SO GOOD! There is no better combo than pumpkin and chocolate. I use cloves, ginger and nutmeg in addition to cinnamon and vanilla, which gives them a great spicey kick. My other secret is using mini chocolate chips. Sometimes I use almost an entire bag of them. They never last more than a day or two in our house because Jesse and I can’t help but devour them. Last time I made them we ate 2 dozen in 36 hours…
This favorite is to combat all of the cookies! Ha! Just kidding, kind of. 5k Runner is an app to help people that don’t run, run a 5k (aka 3 miles) in 8 weeks. The program eases you into running and is great for non-runners, or if you’ve taken a very long break. I started using this program about 5 years ago because I wanted to run a 5k, but I hated running. Now I have three 5ks and two 10ks under my belt. I ran my last 10k about two years ago and stopped running completely when I got pregnant with Bellamy. I actually had barely exercised since I got pregnant with her. I started using 5k Runner to ease back into running at the end of August. The program suggests that you run 3 times a week in order to run a 5k within 8 weeks, but since I’m working at a slower pace the program is taking me longer. I try to sneak out for runs when my mom comes over, or if Jesse is working from home and on the weekends. Sometimes it works out and I will get 3 runs in,
other most times I get 1. The point is, running is getting easier and easier as I work at it and having a program to follow helps me stay focused and have realistic expectations. I will also say that I’m doing at home workouts too, so even if I don’t run as often, I find the exercise easier the more I move my body in general!
I got to see my besties from college twice this month, which makes for an amazing month! One of times we took our families to the pumpkin patch, but the other we took a grown-up ladies only trip to Bold Rock Cidery. I’m not usually a big fan of cider, but I found two flavors on my flight that were really good. One was the Virginia Draft, it wasn’t overly sweet but super smooth and delicious. The other was their new seasonal flavor White Cranberry, which reminds me of Christmas. It was just one of those drinks that tastes like the holidays! They also had their new canned cocktails, Bold Fashioned, the day we went and it was SO good. I’d definitely recommend giving it a try if you like cider and whiskey! We had a blast hanging out and taking in the beautiful Charlottesville views. There was a fall festival going on the day we were there, so we got to enjoy live music and food trucks. Even if you don’t like cider, a trip to Bold Rock is never a disappointment.
I swear I had kids just to dress everyone in matching family costumes! I love everything about it! The planning, the shopping, the creation and the wearing them together. It’s all so fun! I always let Mara pick her costume and then plan everything else from there. I don’t want to ruin her fun or make her do something she’s not excited about. I know things will get tricky when Bellamy is old enough to pick her own costume, but it’s fun for now to have Mara in charge. She decided this year that she wanted to be Darth Vader and that she wanted us to be Stormtroopers. I snagged my costume first for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. It was a Stormtrooper tank dress with gloves from Rubie’s Costume Shop on Amazon. I found Mara’s Darth Vader costume there too. We got her a lightsaber at Target on clearance to go with it. I also snagged Jesse’s Stormtrooper top and mask from Rubie’s on Amazon. Bellamy’s costume was a little trickier. She HATES costumes right now. Like super hates them. She runs away screaming and crying if I try to dress her in something from our dress up collection. I decided that the best way to go was some Stormtrooper pajamas. I found a cute pair of pajamas with feet and a hood. She looked so stinking cute! They both did! I’m already excited for next year!
More specifically, the High-Waisted Rockstar Super Skinny Jeans. I have two pairs, a regular wash and distressed black. They are THE BEST jeans I have ever owned! The high-waist is perfect for my postpartum belly, which still exists. It’s just a concentration of excess skin, a little stubborn fat and some residual ab separation, not a big deal. These jeans suck it all in and smooth everything out. They are comfortable and affordable. I usually wait until they are on sale and then scoop them up for about $25, but they are normally less than $50. I’ve been wearing them constantly, which is saying a lot because I’ve barely worn jeans comfortably in the past 5 years. They make me feel like a real person again! It’s an incredible feeling! I wouldn’t mind a pair in every wash…
