Enjoy the Grinch’s sweet side with this delicious Grinch Christmas Dip! It’s the perfect dessert dip for a fun holiday party with children.
As soon as the holidays come around The Grinch is on repeat in our house. We prefer the more recent animated version with Benedict Cumberbatch, but they are all fantastic. Since we’re constantly watching The Grinch steal Christmas, I wanted to make a fun treat inspired by the movies.
This Grinch Christmas Dip is a delicious dessert dip. It’s perfect for the kids! And for adults with a sweet tooth. Best of all? It only takes a few minutes to make. And it doesn’t require any real cooking! That’s the perfect treat in my book!

Ingredients for Grinch Christmas Dip
- Cream cheese
- Cool Whip
- Boxed Vanilla cake mix (heat treated)
- Green food coloring
- Red heart sprinkles
How to Make This Fun Christmas Dip
This Grinch dip is incredibly simple to make! And it doesn’t require any real cooking! Start with 8 ounces of cream cheese. You can use a block of cream cheese or a pre-whipped version. I like to use a block and whip it with a hand mixer for a minute or two. The mixer makes the cream cheese softer and easier to stir.
Next, stir in 8 ounces of Cool Whip. Be sure to mix the Cool Whip and cream cheese together thoroughly. Then add a box of vanilla cake mix. Stir well. Be sure there are no dry pockets of cake mix.
Food Safety Note About Cake Mix
Most cake mixes are not safe to consume raw. Unless the box says explicitly that it has been heat treated and is safe to consume raw. All other cake mixes require heat treatment. Place the cake mix in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30-second increments until the cake mix reaches 160 degrees. Check the temperature with a food thermometer. Allow the mixture to cool before adding it to your Grinch dip!
Once the cream cheese, Cool Whip, and cake mix are well mixed, add about 1/2 teaspoon of green gel food coloring. The white ingredients soak up a lot of the green. You want a vivid green dip so it looks like the Grinch!

Sometimes Less is More
This Christmas dip recipe calls for 8 ounces of cream cheese, 8 ounces of Cool Whip, and an entire box of cake mix. It makes a LOT of dip! When preparing this dip for less than 10 people I cut the recipe in half. It still makes plenty, but not as much goes to waste. And the leftover cake mix is great for a small batch of Grinch cookies!
Serve the Grinch Christmas dip in a small bowl topped with red heart-shaped candies or sprinkles. The red hearts are the perfect finishing touch!

What to Serve with Grinch Dip
This Christmas dip pairs well with a variety of cookies and crackers. Graham crackers aren’t overly sweet, so they taste delicious with this frosting-like dip.

Nilla Wafers also don’t have a strong flavor. So they are a great compliment to the vanilla and tang of the Grinch dip. And pretzel chips are salty, so that creates a salty-sweet dynamic. The salty-sweet pairing may be preferred by adults rather than children.
Tips for Storing This Grinch Christmas Dip
Store Grinch Christmas dip in the refrigerator for up to three days in an airtight container. You could also store it in a serving bowl covered in plastic cling wrap for about 24 hours.
If you make a big batch of Christmas dip, consider storing a portion in the freezer! It will keep for about a month. But remember, do not thaw and refreeze! Then, you have additional opportunities to serve this fun dip without any extra work.
