Check out these fun gold paint DIY projects! I used gold spray paint to add stripes to a few vases and gave a gold-dipped look to a lamp.
It’s that time again! Time for another Pinterest Challenge! Hosted by the ladies of Young House Love and Bower Power with the idea to make us stop pinning and start doing. For me, this challenge came at the perfect time because I am neck-deep in work, party prep, and yard work. Lame. So I’m using the Pinterest Challenge to push myself to work on something not lame and pretty ๐ And right now, in my mind, nothing is prettier than gold! (Image via REVEL)
I was super inspired when I saw Chelsea‘s recent gold-dipped vase, plus Carmel at Our Fifth House is constantly incorporating gold into her home’s decor. It’s just gorgeous! So I decided I was going to get my gold on and do a gold paint DIY for this Pinterest Challenge. I used some good ole painter’s tape to make my stripes and then spray painted the whole vase in Rustoleum’s Metallic Gold (thanks for that tip Chelsea!). Simplest craft ever.
Word to the wise, when working with tape and spray paint, don’t let the paint dry for more than a few minutes. There are a few spots that peeled up on my first try.
Also how gorgeous are these flowers?! They are blue and white spider mums that I got for $2 at the grocery store on Sunday.ย
Since doing gold stripes went so well I decided to try my luck with the gold dipped look on my new IKEA lamps. I love the clear glass, but they were so blah.ย
I taped the lamp off using painter’s tape and aluminum foil, then I wrapped the cord in a plastic bag and got to work. The result is awesome. I’m in love!ย
Also, it’s hard to take pictures in the middle of a thunderstorm. The lighting is so weird.
I ended up going ahead and “dipping” both lamps, which I’ll show you on Friday along with another project I finally did for our nightstands! Look at how motivated a Pinterest Challenge makes me!
Be sure to go check out Sherry, Katie, Emily, and Renee‘s projects and thank them for hosting! ๐
Did you participate in the challenge? What did you make? I think I may paint everything in my house gold now…
All I kept thinking during this post, was the Austin Power’s movie quote, “I looveee goolllddd”. ๐
But in all serious-ness, they both turned out awesome!
Hahaha! Thanks lady!
They look great! Nice idea.
So pretty! I especially love the way the lamp turned out – where the gold kind of slopes.
Me too! I can’t wait to post pictures of them on the nightstands!
Love those lamps- going to have to check them out when I head to Ikea in the next month or so. I love the gold accent on them! That is the perfect gold colour too!
Thanks! And yes check them out! They were $15 a pop here!
These turned out so cute. I’m especially adoring those gold-dipped lamps. The dipped look really takes them up a notch.
Thanks Kim! ๐
The lamp looks so good!!! I want to buy a glass lamp and try this now ๐
Do ittt! ๐
Love the gold! I did a similar project with glass etching cream. What is it about stripes on a vase that looks so great?! ๐
Soooo pretty! I love the lamp. Great idea Ashley!
I love the gold dipped lamp!! So pretty.
Thanks girl! ๐
Oh, they turned out fabulous! I love the lamp. Would love to see a reveal with them in their space. I like how you didn’t go for a straight dip. It looks more natural. Like you actually dipped it. Pinning this!
Thanks! I’ll have a post of them in their space up on Thursday! I hope you’ll stop back by! ๐
Very cute. I now have all kinds of things I want to dip in paint.
I’ve been walking around my house trying to find more things too!
Those lamps look totally snazzy now! And yes, those flowers are beautiful. ๐
Thanks lady!
I love all things gold dipped and your lamp is no exception. It’s gorgeous ๐
Thank you so much! ๐
Everything looks great! I especially love those lamps with the asymmetrical “dip” going on. ๐
You deserved a project for yourself after all the work you are putting into the party – good for you ๐
Thanks girl! And now I’m back to being submerged in party prep… :p
I LOVE how that lamp turned out! Very pretty!!!
Thanks Michelle!
They look awesome! I did some extra vases with some different designs like you did with the painters tape that I still need to blog about (story of my life).
Me too! Sometimes I jump into a project, finish it, and then face-palm because I forgot pictures.
The lamp and vase came out awesome! I actually own the identical vase and lamp (lol) so I need to try this!
Haha! Definitely! I love the added interest it gives the lamps!
That’s so amazing! I love me some gold!
Me too girl, me too. ๐
Super Cute!

Your lamps are stunning!!! Beautiful job!
Thank so much Vanessa!
I’m loving gold right now too, which is weird because I’ve never loved gold. I love the uneven look on the lamp!!
Same here. It’s very strange. Jesse thinks I’m an imposter!
Love Love Love the lamp! I would love for you to link up with me at http://hickorytrailblog.blogspot.com/2013/05/assets-and-efforts-linky-party-2.html

I love your vase. And your gold dipped lamps. Yes, gold is definitely in and I love how you’ve incorporated it. Looks fabulous.

LOVE! I was thinking of doing this same thing to a white ceramic lamp I bought on clearance at Target. So happy to see how great it looks! ๐
Do it! I absolutely love it!
