Girls’ Getaway to Charlottesville VA

A fun recap and trip ideas for a girls’ getaway in Charlottesville and Richmond Virginia. There are wineries, cideries, and breweries galore!

Charlottesville, Virginia is an excellent destination for a girls’ getaway. The region is full of wineries, cideries, and breweries. There are also amazing restaurants and stunning views of the mountains. So there is a little bit of something for everyone!

Charlottesville is only an hour’s drive from the city of Richmond. So it makes an excellent day trip if you are staying in the city. For this trip, many of our friends flew into Richmond. We booked a Richmond hotel and drove to Charlottesville together for a day trip.

Girls' Getaway

Our girls’ getaway started on Saturday morning with a trip to pick up a friend from the airport. Then, we drove out to Charlottesville to meet up with more of our friends for a day of wine, cider, and beer.

Girls’ Getaway Stop 1: Veritas Vineyard & Winery

We started with wine at Veritas Vineyard & Winery (my fave stop of the trip) for a tasting. Our tasting included 4 whites, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier, and a table white called White Star. And 3 reds Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and their table red called Red Star.

I’m usually just a red wine drinker, but I did really like the Viognier and the table white. They were light and crisp and too overtly sweet. My favorite was the Cabernet Franc though. It’s a very light red which makes it perfect for day drinking.

The wine drinkers in our group enjoyed a glass or two as we chatted and caught up on life.

Girls’ Getaway Stop 2: Bold Rock Hard Cider

The next stop for our girls’ getaway was about 20 minutes down the road at Bold Rock Hard Cider. One of the girls is a huge cider fan so this spot was a must. We sat outside and enjoyed some live music and some amazing views. We seriously could not have asked for a more beautiful day.

Bold Rock has two different flight options available, plus you can order pints and food. I’m not usually a big fan of cider, but I did sample some of my friends’ flights. Their Seasonal Cider was made with Blood Orange and was to DIE for.

Girls’ Getaway Stop 3: Devil’s Backbone Brewing Company

Our next last Charlottesville stop was about 2 miles away at Devil’s Backbone Brewing Company. We decided to grab a table inside their restaurant to have some snacks and beers. I ordered some wings and a flight.

The Vienna Lager, Striped Bass Pale Ale, and Trail Angel Weiss were my favorites. Their food was absolutely delicious! Some of the girls ordered nachos and sandwiches and we all munched and shared. After our snacks and beers we headed back to Richmond for dinner and to check into our hotel.

Where We Stayed: Graduate Hotel, Richmond

We booked the family suite at the Graduate Hotel. A suite for a girls’ getaway is so fun because we could stay together. The suite slept our whole group comfortably. It had two bathrooms, a King bed, bunk beds, and a sleeper sofa.

Graduate Hotel is a hotel in Richmond that features a clean, modern design. It has a cafe in the lobby and a rooftop pool and bar. We checked in and freshened up when we got back from Charlottesville. Then we Ubered to dinner.

We had dinner at En Su Boca, a great little margarita and taco spot. After dinner, we headed back to the hotel and crashed. We’re definitely all getting older since we couldn’t stay up past midnight.

We started our morning off with coffee from the adorable coffee shop, Brookfield, downstairs. Then we went up to the rooftop to enjoy the views. This was followed by brunch and mimosas.
