Ingredients You Need to Make Funfetti Dip

  • Funfetti or Rainbow Chip Cake Mix – Pillsbury Funfetti cake mix is the licensed “Funfetti” mix, but most brands carry a vanilla cake mix with colorful confetti candy pieces. This fun confetti-style cake mix is perfect for this festive creamy dip. White cake mix is a great alternative, but you need to add extra sprinkles.
  • Cool Whip – The whipped topping makes the cake dip light and fluffy. It’s sweet, but without any tang like a cream cheese-based dip has. Homemade whipped cream is a great alternative.
  • Rainbow Sprinkles – It’s not Funfetti without a ton of sprinkles! Switch up the type of sprinkles or the shape for a more festive look.

How to Make This Easy Funfetti Dip Recipe

This Funfetti cake batter dip recipe is simple, but so much fun. It’s the perfect sweet dip for a birthday party or a girls’ night at home.

Step 1 – First, heat treat a box of confetti cake mix. Heat treatment kills the bacteria in the raw cake mix that could make you ill. There are two different ways to heat-treat cake mix.

  1. Microwave – Pour the cake mix into a large microwave-safe bowl. Heat the flour in one-minute increments until it reaches 165 degrees.
  2. Oven – Spread the box of cake mix in an even layer inside a 13 x 9 baking dish. Heat the mix at 350 degrees for about 5 minutes, or until the mix reaches a temperature of 165 degrees.

Step 2 – Allow the cake mix to cool before mixing it with the whipped cream in a large bowl. Stir the ingredients together by hand or use an electric hand mixer. You can also use a stand mixer if you prefer that method.

Step 3 – Next, stir in all of the sprinkles! Set aside some sprinkles to add to the top of the dip.

Step 4 – Transfer the Funfetti dip to a serving bowl. Top it with additional sprinkles or Teddy Grahams.

What to Serve with Funfetti Dip

Funfetti Dip is vanilla-flavored and lightly sweet, so it pairs well with a large variety of cookies and crackers.

  • Animal Crackers – These fun animal-shaped cookies are perfect for confetti cake dip. They aren’t overly sweet by themselves, so the combination of cookie and dip is well-balanced.
  • Graham Crackers – Another cookie that isn’t too sweet. The graham flavor is also a nice complement to the vanilla in the dip.
  • Vanilla Wafers – The perfect cookie for an easy dessert dip because they aren’t overly sweet.
  • Fresh Fruit – Strawberries or apples pair well with this vanilla dessert.
  • Oreos – If you’re a chocolate lover, Oreos also make a great dipper for Funfetti dip. The crunchy chocolate cookies pair well with vanilla.
  • Pretzel Chips – For the sweet and salty crowd, try pairing pretzels with cake batter dip. It’s a great blend of the two flavors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Funfetti A Separate Flavor?

Funfetti cake, also called Rainbow Chip or Confetti, is typically a separate boxed cake flavor. The cake mix is usually a white or vanilla cake with colorful candies added. It looks like confetti within the cake when it’s done baking.
If you can’t find a confetti cake mix, add sprinkles to the mix for the same effect.

Why Should I Heat Treat Cake Mix?

Raw flour products are generally not safe for consumption. They have not been treated to eliminate bacteria, like salmonella. Eating non-treated raw flour products could result in food poisoning. So heat any cake mix or flour, just to be safe.
Flour should be heated to 165 degrees before consumption. Heat the cake mix in the microwave and use a cooking thermometer to monitor the temperature.

Can I Make This Dip In Advance?

Absolutely! This dip is great for creating a few hours, or even a day, before serving. Just be sure to store it in an air-tight container!

Can I Make This Dip Gluten-Free?

Yes! Both Pillsbury and King Arthur Baking produce gluten-free sprinkled cake mixes. Use these with gluten-free whipped cream and sprinkles for a gluten-free sweet dessert dip.

How to Store this Dip

Store Funfetti Dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator. The container needs a tight seal, otherwise, the dip dries out. Keep this dip in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Do not refreeze and thaw this dip!

This delicious dip is going to become one of your new favorite treats! It’s perfect for cake lovers who aren’t in the mood to bake!
