Ingredients for Ham and Cheese Kings Hawaiian Sliders

  • King’s Hawaiian Sweet Rolls – These delicious rolls add a little sweetness to the sliders. King’s Hawaiian Rolls originated in Hawaii in the 1950’s, but are now available at most grocery stores.
  • Smoked Ham – Thinly sliced smoked deli ham is best for these sandwiches.
  • Swiss Cheese – This cheese is a little nutty, has a mild flavor, and is slightly sweet. It’s ideal for sandwiches and sliders.
  • Dijon Mustard – Dijon is sharpy, tangy, and a little spicy. It adds a lot of flavor to these sliders. It’s better than regular mustard!
  • Mayonnaise – Add a little tang and creaminess with some mayo. You can’t have a sandwich without mayo.
  • Butter – The butter helps brown the tops of the rolls. It also adds more flavor.
  • Onion Powder – Add a little onion flavor with some onion powder sprinkled over the top buns.
  • Poppy Seeds – These little seeds are slightly nutty and full of flavor! They are a staple for many sandwiches, breads, and bagels.
  • Salt and Pepper – Every recipe needs a little salt and pepper!
  • Parsley – This herb adds a fresh, slightly bitter, and peppery taste to the slider buns. Fresh parsley or dried parsley are perfect.

How to Make Kings Hawaiian Sliders

These are the perfect ham and cheese sandwiches! They are the perfect combination of salty ham, melty cheese, spicy Dijon mustard, and herbs and spices.

Step 1 – Lightly grease a 9×13 baking dish with a neutral oil or butter. Arrange the bottoms of the sweet Hawaiian rolls in the baking dish in tight rows of three.

Step 2 – Spread even layers of Dijon mustard and mayonnaise across the bottom half of the rolls. Then add a layer of ham slices. The ham doesn’t need to be cut to fit the buns. All of the ingredients should overlap across the tightly packed buns.

Step 3 – Next, add a layer of Swiss cheese slices. I cut the Swiss cheese in half so that it is evenly layered across the ham. As the cheese melts spread over every bit of the Hawaiian buns.

Step 4 – Place the tops of the rolls over all of the sliders. Then melt a few tablespoons of butter in the microwave. Stir salt, pepper, and onion powder into the melted butter. Use a silicone basting brush to spread the savory butter mixture over the top of the slider buns.

Step 5 – Finally, sprinkle a bit of parsley and poppy seeds over the tops of the ham and cheese Hawaiian sliders. These can also be added to the melted butter instead.

Step 6 – Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes, or until the tops of the buns are golden brown.

Step 7 – Slice the Hawaiian roll sliders apart using a serrated knife and serve them hot.

Alternative Ingredients for Hawaiian Sliders

  • Garlic Powder – Add a little garlic powder over the top of the rolls for extra flavor. Or use it as a substitute for the onion powder.
  • Roast Beef – If you aren’t a fan of ham, or you don’t eat pork, use thinly sliced roast beef instead. Purchase the thinly sliced roast beef from the deli. It tastes great with melted Swiss cheese!
  • Everything But the Bagel Seasoning – This blend of seasonings is perfect for so many sandwiches. It’s made with toasted sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried onion, dried garlic, and salt.
  • American Cheese Slices – If you aren’t a fan of Swiss cheese, use American cheese instead. You could also use cheddar cheese. I’d recommend not using a very sharp cheddar.
