I created this love cut out using a large foam board and a sharp craft knife for a fun Valentine’s Day mantel.
Any way… I was hard at work this weekend finishing up my Valentine’s decorations and I decided that I wanted to do something really different for the mantel. I always center everything and have my teal frame up and I just wasn’t feeling it this time. So instead I did this: The idea for the love cut out in cursive just randomly hit me while Jesse and I were watching TV a few weeks ago, so I decided to try it out. I free-handed it (hence why it’s far from perfect) on a piece of foam board that was in my craft closet and then cut the letters out using an Exacto knife. I brought a piece of scrap wood in from the garage to cut on so I could still watch TV and not destroy the carpet.
I really wanted to do something cutesy in pink, so I decided to paint my letters pink. After I was done I was kind of disappointed because the L looked like a breast cancer awareness ribbon. Not that there is anything wrong with cancer awareness, it just wasn’t the look I was going for.
So to fix it I added glitter. Lots and lots of glitter! I’m much happier with how it turned out, though in the future I think I’d pick red or a darker pink and skip the massive amounts of glitter.
I’ll share more about the rest of mantel on Thursday! And don’t forget to check out yesterday’s wreath! How is your mantel decorated for V-Day?
i see the breast cancer ribbon now that you mention it LOL. But, it turned out great…better than my (non decorated) valentines mantel!
anything with glitter on it is a win in my book.
I like it!! This is adorable.
Crafting while watching tv at the same time is very important! 🙂
It turned out really cute!
I’ve been looking for Valentine’s Day decor to add to our build ins because they look so bare. This would be perfect. Great idea!
Your love sign is so adorable! I really like the way it turned out!
Haha, oh Joey. That’s a cute idea!
I’m living my Valentine’s Day decorations vicariously through you! I love them all!
We’re going camping for V-Day, so maybe I’ll decorate the tent?
I think it looks adorable. And bonus points for using what you already had.
Super cute! I love the added glitter =)

I –love– this! Cute handwriting, too.
Thanks Traci! I’m one of those people that hates my own handwriting, so it’s nice to hear other people think it looks good haha.
It’s so cute! I love the scripty freehand! Hope you’re feeling better 🙁
I have good days and bad days, but I go back to the doctor next week so I will find out more then!
What a fun DIY decoration. I like that you used cursive to write it out. I’m impressed with your cutting skills. Love it!
Thanks Amy! I was totally thinking it looked terrible for the first few days I had it up, so that means a lot!
