One of the most memorable comfort meals of my childhood is chicken pot pie. However, a homemade pot pie is a lot of effort. And frozen pot pies just aren’t the same. This pot pie recipe for the air fryer is the perfect combination. It’s quick and easy to make but contains fresher ingredients.

This is the perfect quick comfort meal at the end of a long day! And it’s sure to become a family favorite.

Why Make a Pot Pie in the Air Fryer?

A large homemade pot pie in the oven takes time to make. There are plenty of shortcuts you can take to make it less time-consuming. But it still requires a large pan and an oven. Making a small pot pie in the air fryer ensures you have a fresh, delicious chicken pot pie in a fraction of the time.

Using the air fryer for a pot pie is quick, simple, and delicious. And you don’t have to sacrifice fresh ingredients.

Ingredients You Need for an Air Fryer Chicken Pot Pie

  • Shredded chicken – Use leftovers from the day before, a store-bought rotisserie chicken, or make some just for the pot pies.
  • Frozen Mixed Vegetables – Get a helping of veggies the easy way, with a bag of frozen mixed vegetables.
  • Chicken Gravy – Many pot pie recipes use canned soups. But I prefer a thicker pot pie with a rich gravy instead.
  • Dough Sheets – Ready-to-bake dough sheets from the grocery store make this recipe so easy.
  • Parsley – Use fresh or dried parsley for an earthy flavor.
  • Thyme – Thyme pairs so well with chicken. It has a rich almost lemony flavor.
  • Garlic Powder – A bit of garlic powder adds the perfect amount of flavor to this dish.
  • Salt + Pepper – Of course, no recipe is complete without a bit of salt and pepper.

How to Make Chicken Pot Pie in the Air Fryer

This recipe is quick and easy! Enjoy a rich comfort meal within minutes, no matter how busy the week is!

Step 1 – Spray oven-safe ramekins with a non-stick cooking spray. Add a 6×6 square of dough to the ramekin. Gently press the dough into the bottom and sides of the ramekin.

Step 2 – Bake the dough for 5 minutes at 350 degrees in the air fryer.

Step 3 – Prepare the chicken gravy. Then add it to a bowl with the shredded chicken, frozen vegetables, and spices. Don’t thaw the frozen vegetables.

Step 4 – After the crusts finish baking, add the filling to each ramekin. Top them with another 6×6 square of pastry dough. Press the dough firmly to the top of the ramekins. Cut a small “X” on the top of each pot pie. This prevents the pastry from rising too much.

Step 5 – Bake each dish in the air fryer for about 10 minutes at 350 degrees. The top of the pot pie should be golden brown. And the filling should be cooked through and hot.

Step 6 – Allow the pies to cool for 5 minutes. Then serve in the ramekins. Be careful, they will still be hot to the touch.

FAQ’s

Can I Make a Larger Pot Pie?

Yes. This recipe works just as well for a larger pie. Any oven-safe baking dish that fits in your air fryer may be used. Just keep in mind a larger dish may take longer to cook through.

Can I Cook a Frozen Pot Pie in the Air Fryer?

Yes! Any frozen pot pie can also be cooked in the air fryer. To cook a frozen pot pie, preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees. Place the frozen pie inside and air fry for 15 minutes. Use a cooking thermometer to ensure the pot pie is cooked through. If not, continue to cook in 3-minute increments until finished.

How Do I Store Leftovers?

Store leftover pot pies in the ramekin in the refrigerator. Cover the top of the ramekin with foil. The pot pies keep for up to two days in the refrigerator. Do not refrigerate and reheat a pie more than once.

How Do I Reheat a Pot Pie in the Air Fryer?

To reheat a refrigerated pot pie in the air fryer, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Bake the pie for 5-8 minutes, until it is heated through.

What Type of Air Fryer Do I Need for This Recipe?

Any air fryer works well for this recipe! Obviously, larger air fryers hold larger dishes for larger pies. But small drawer air fryers can make one or two pot pies at a time. I have the Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven in stainless steel. I prefer this air fryer because it is stainless steel as opposed to plastic. It has removable trays for baking and air frying. And it holds larger baking pans.
