Carrot Cake Dip Ingredients

  • Carrot Cake Mix – Skip the homemade carrot cake just this once and use a box cake mix. The box is easier and has all of the flavors you need to make a Carrot Cake Dip.
  • Cream Cheese – Typically, carrot cakes are topped with a cream cheese frosting. This dip honors that pairing and combines carrot cake and cream cheese into a deliciously creamy dessert. Be sure the cream cheese softens at room temperature so it is easier to work with.
  • Whipped Cream – Lighten up this dip with some whipped cream, or whipped topping. I prefer to use Cool Whip for dessert dips because it is easier than using homemade whipped cream.
  • Shredded Carrots – Add a little extra carrot flavor and texture with some freshly shredded carrots. Shred the carrot with a vegetable peeler or a cheese grater. My preferred method is to peel thin layers of carrot with a veggie peeler. Then I pulse the ribbons of carrot in a food processor a few times. The result is finely shredded carrot pieces that mix perfectly into the dip.

How to Make Carrot Cake Dip

This delicious Carrot Cake dessert is a creamy dip with a lot of carrot cake flavor. It takes less time to make than an actual cake and only requires a handful of ingredients.

Step 1 – First, you need to heat treat a box of carrot cake mix. Heat treatment kills the bacteria in the raw cake mix that could make you ill. There are two different ways to heat-treat cake mix.

  1. Microwave – Pour the cake mix into a large microwave-safe bowl. Heat the flour in one-minute increments until it reaches 165 degrees.
  2. Oven – Spread the cake mix in an even layer inside of a 13 x 9 baking dish. Heat the mix at 350 degrees for about 5 minutes, or until the mix reaches a temperature of 165 degrees.

Step 2 – Allow the cake mix to cool before mixing it into the cream cheese mixture.

Step 3 – In a large bowl combine the cream cheese and whipped topping. Be sure the cream cheese is softened so it is easy to stir. Stir the creamy ingredients together by hand or use an electric hand mixer. You can also use a stand mixer if you prefer that method.

Step 4 – Next, add the carrot cake mix to the wet ingredients. Stir the mix in by hand or use the electric mixer again.

Step 5 – Then stir in a cup of finely shredded carrots. The fresh carrot adds more texture and carrot flavor to the dip.

Step 6 – Transfer the Carrot Cake Dip to a serving bowl. Top it with chopped walnuts for an added crunch.

What to Serve with Carrot Cake Dip

Carrot cake has a rich flavor full of spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. It pairs well with a variety of cookies and other dippers.

  • Graham Crackers – The graham flavor of these crackers complements the warm spices of the carrot cake and adds a satisfying crunch to every bite.
  • Apple Slices – Sliced apples, especially tart green apples pair well with the flavor of carrot cake. They make lovely dippers for this dessert.
  • Pretzel Chips – For the sweet and salty crowd, try pairing pretzels with this carrot cake batter dip. It’s a great blend of the two flavors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where Can I Buy Carrot Cake Mix?

Box carrot cake mix is found on the baking aisle of most grocery stores. I used Duncan Hines Signature carrot cake mix for this recipe. The mix makes it easy to make carrot cake in a hurry. But don’t tell my grandma that I’m cheating and not using her recipe!

Why Should I Heat Treat Cake Mix?

Raw flour products are generally not safe for consumption. They have not been treated to eliminate bacteria, like salmonella. Eating non-treated raw flour products could result in food poisoning. So heat any cake mix or flour, just to be safe.
Flour should be heated to 165 degrees before consumption. Heat the cake mix in the microwave or oven and use a cooking thermometer to monitor the temperature.

Can I Make This Dip In Advance?

Absolutely! This dip is great for creating a few hours, or even a day, before serving. Just be sure to store it in an air-tight container!

How to Store this Dip

Store Carrot Cake Dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator. The container needs a tight seal, otherwise, the dip dries out. Then it is difficult to scoop and doesn’t taste as good. Keep this dip in the refrigerator for up to five days. Do not refreeze and thaw this dip!
