Bespin Fizz – Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Copycat Cocktail

A copycat recipe for the Bespin Fizz from Oga’s Cantina at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at Disney World. It’s a rum, yuzu, and pomegranate.

Nothing beats walking around Batuu at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge and then enjoying a cocktail at Oga’s Cantina. Unfortunately, I don’t live near Disney World! So I decided to recreate the magic of some of my favorite treats from Galaxy’s Edge at home.

This is a copycat recipe for the Bespin Fizz cocktail. The Bespin Fizz is a rum cocktail with yuzu and pomegranate. It is a sweet and refreshing cocktail.

Why Is the Drink Called a Bespin Fizz?

In Star Wars Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back, Han seeks refuge with his old smuggler friend, Lando Calrissian. Lando runs a mining operation called Cloud City. This mini is located above the gaseous planet Bespin. In Disney World, the Bespin Fizz is served with dry ice to give it the “fizz” and appearance of clouds, like the atmosphere of Bespin.

This drink costs about $20 at Oga’s Cantina. At home, I skip the dry ice, which makes this cocktail simpler to create and very affordable.

What Is In The Bespin Fizz?

According to the Oga’s Cantina menu, the Bespin Fizz contains Bacardi Superior Rum, yuzu purée, pomegranate juice, white cranberry juice, and a cloud swirl (dry ice). For this copycat recipe, you need:

  • White Rum – Rum has a mildly sweet taste because it is made from agave. It is often found in tropical cocktails. Clear rum is best for fruity drinks for its flavor and it won’t change the color of the cocktail.
  • Yuzu Marmalade – Yuzu is a citrus fruit found in East Asia. It looks and tastes similar to a lemon, but it contains floral and herbal flavors as well. The original Bespin Fizz recipe at Oga’s Cantina uses yuzu puree, however I could not easily find yuzu puree. Instead, I substituted the puree for marmalade from my local grocery store. The marmalade contains yuzu, sugar, and honey. Many purees are also made with sugar and other fruit juices, so it’s not very different to substitute marmalade.
  • Pomegranate Juice – Use 100% pomegranate juice for this recipe. The juice is naturally sweet and a little tart. POM is my favorite brand of pomegranate juice to use.
  • White Cranberry Juice – White cranberry juice is a clear and sweet juice. It adds additional sweetness to the cocktail and a little tartness.

How to Make a Bespin Fizz

This cocktail is the perfect drink for May the 4th or a Star Wars movie night! It is sweet and refreshing.

Step One – In a cocktail shaker, combine rum, pomegranate juice, white cranberry juice, and yuzu marmalade.

Step Two – Next, add a handful of ice to the cocktail shaker. Firmly secure the lid on the cocktail shaker. Shake for 30 seconds to thoroughly combine and chill the ingredients.

Step Three – Use a mesh strainer to strain the cocktail over ice. The strainer will catch any remaining chunks of marmalade. If you don’t mind chunks of fruit in your drink, then skip the mesh strainer.

Garnish this beautiful burgundy cocktail with a slice of dry fruit or a lemon wheel.

What Type of Glass Do I Use?

  • Star Wars Tumbler – What better way to enjoy a Star Wars cocktail than in a Star Wars glass? The glasses I used are from the Deco collection by JoyJolt. But any Star Wars glass will do!
  • Highball Glass A highball (or hi-ball) glass is similar to a Collins glass. It is a tall and slightly narrow glass. The Bespin Fizz is served in a highball glass at Disney World with a long piece of dry ice in the center.

Can I Make This Copycat Cocktail in Advance?

Yes! These drinks are perfect for making in advance! Combine all of the ingredients, without ice. Store in an airtight jar or glass bottle until it is time to serve. Strain the cocktail when serving. You may store this cocktail in the refrigerator for up to a week. However, the flavor profile may change a bit the longer you store it!

Make this cocktail for a large group by multiplying the ingredients by the number of guests you need to serve. For example, if serving 8 guests then multiply the recipe by 8.
