Small Bedroom Makeover Ideas and Updates
Utilizing small bedroom makeover ideas and updates can completely transform a space into a bedroom that you love.
It’s hard to believe that we’ve been in our house for almost 2 years! I look around and see how much things have changed since last year, but I also see a lot of things that haven’t changed at all. Our bedroom is one of those rooms that has been semi-complete for almost a year. We’ve done a few things like making a headboard, a nightstand, and installing a ceiling fan, but it still feels far from finished. In November the room looked like this:
Well, I’m happy to report that I’ve knocked a few of those items off the “master list” and am so much happier with how the room is coming along! Here are the small bedroom makeover ideas on my to-do list:
- Paint the walls a nice cozy color, like what’s in the master bath currently.
Switch out the bedding for something crisp and solid white.Add fun throw pillows to the bed to break up the white.- Build Jesse a matching nightstand for his side of the bed. (In the works!)
Hang a large, decorative mirror over the bed (or the window art)- Refinish the dresser in either white or a darker stain.
- Build a bench for the end of the bed, or put an armchair and table where the dresser is currently.
- Add a large standing mirror to the room somewhere.
- Replace the curtains with something more airy and a soft pattern of some kind.
- Replace the fabric on the headboard to compliment the curtains and white bedding (if the burlap looks clashy when I’m done with everything.)
Thanks to my mom we now have a super comfy white down comforter on the bed. It’s so warm, yet lightweight, and I love it so much more than the purple comforter we used to use. In person, it doesn’t clash with the headboard at all, even though it doesn’t look ideal in this photo (neither do our pillows, not sure what’s up with that). Now I just need to pick up some white pillow shams to match the comforter and get a new bed skirt and the bed will be complete. The mirror was a recent HomeGoods find, for only $40. I had a gift card from Christmas and it was exactly what I was looking for, so I had to get it. I also got that adorable jewelry box for Christmas, and I love having it by the bed in case I forget to take off my rings before I go to sleep.
The gallery wall has been there all along, but I added a lot of new things to it a few weeks ago. I actually was supposed to be cleaning and I randomly decided that it was a good time to rearrange things a bit. The toilets may or may not have gotten cleaned that night 😉
New pieces to the wall are these two postcards that we picked up on our Europe trip. The bottom picture is a WWII photo from the Churchill War Rooms and the picture above it is of Westminster Abbey, the frame was a gift from Karah at The Space Between.
The new picture here is the one of me and my Papa when I was little. My cousin found it and gave it to me as part of my Christmas present, which of course made me cry. He passed away when I was 8, but he is one of those people whose absence is always felt.
A few pictures below the picture of my Papa is this picture of my Grampy and I, he passed away last year. I’m so thankful that he was able to come to my wedding and this sweet picture is one of my favorites from that day. I’m so lucky that I’ve had such wonderful grandfathers in my life, and I miss them, and my Grandpa, so much.
Overall, these small bedroom makeover ideas and changes to the room are small, but I definitely feel like they make a huge difference. I love watching things come together in a room that I spend a lot of time in. Now I just need to get some new paint on the walls, maybe this year will be the year!
Have you made any updates around your house lately? What room would you consider the “most finished”?
The new bedding looks great. I need to get to working on a gallery wall of precious photos like yours!
Wow, the white down comforter makes such a difference! It looks so comfy too! I still love your DIY headboard– it’s classy and timeless! Hope you have a great week, friend! 🙂
you have def made an improvement! I don’t think the white clashes at all with the headboard, it just adds a nice “clean and fresh” feel to the room. I would add more pillows. I am a pillow queen though…so you may have enough for a normal person ha!
Ohhh great updates!!
Why are the master bedrooms always neglected? Mine is – and I’ve been in this house for 4 years! Looking amazing – love your gallery wall and I have the same frame from Karah!
