The past year has been a whirlwind, for everyone I’m sure. We made the difficult decision to drop everything and move out of our home. We lived with family for 4 months while our old house was on the market and our new house was being completed. It was a very stressful time, but now we are in our new home! I tried not to channel all of my stress into online shopping during this time, but there are still a few things that I’m so glad I invested in this year.

I’ve never really been the type of person to buy pajamas. I usually just move t-shirts or leggings with holes or stains into my PJ drawer and then wear them until they disintegrate. Or they were Christmas gifts from when I was younger. When Jesse and I got married I still had Tinkerbell PJs from when I was 15. They were barely attached to the waistband anymore and were such highwaters that they hit me mid-calf. This year I decided that it was time to grow up and to throw out the ratty pajamas and actually buy some real PJs that fit and looked cute. I’m still hella cheap and didn’t want to pay a lot of money for pajamas, so I checked out Old Navy’s selection. I bought a pair of Jersey-knit pants, shorts and a cropped plush-knit top. I ended up liking them so much that I bought another top and two more pairs of the pants. It is SO nice to have pajamas that actually fit and that don’t look disgusting. I actually feel kinda cute and put together when I go to bed and I’m not ashamed to be seen in my PJs wandering around the house. Plus, they are super comfortable. I’ve always been a fan of Jersey-knit because it’s buttery soft, plus it’s lightweight so I don’t get hot at night like with some of the thicker pajamas.
When the weather started to cool off this year we were still living with family waiting for our house to finish being built. We hadn’t anticipated being there past the summer, so I only packed one pair of leggings, one pair of jeans, sweatpants and my Aerie yoga pants. It was definitely not enough for cooler weather! Since I liked the bike shorts and yoga pants that I purchased from Aerie so much, I decided to invest in a few pairs of their leggings. I got a pair of the Offline OG High Waisted Leggings and a pair of the Offline OG High Waisted “Flare leggings.” I’m pretty sure these are also just yoga pants, but maybe less thick. It’s great to have a few pairs of thick, comfortable leggings in my closet. I’m less concerned with whether my tops totally cover my whole butt! I’m basically living in leggings 24/7 since we spend most of our time at home, but I feel like I will also wear these out into the world (whenever that happens again).
I’ve seen SO much on social media about how great silk pillowcases are for your skin and hair, so I decided to give them a try. I bought the Bedsure Satin pillowcases on Amazon. Apparently Satin has similar effects as silk, but is more durable and less high maintenance. I haven’t noticed a difference with my skin, but absolutely with my hair! My hair is naturally wavy and frizzy, so I’m used to waking up to a mess in the morning. With a silk pillowcase I’ve noticed that I have less frizz and hardly any bed head. It’s really nice to not have to totally restyle my hair every day.
My blowdryer has been public enemy number one for most of my life. Drying my hair would take FOREVER and it was always a giant, frizzy mess when I was done. A few of my friends have talked about this L’oreal BLOW DRY IT Quick Dry Primer Spray being amazing. It is heat protectant and also cuts down on blow drying time, so I decided to try it out. It now takes about 5 minutes to dry my hair post-shower and it’s way less frizzy. I love this stuff! I apply my Living Proof No Frizz Nourishing Styling Cream fresh out of the shower, brush it through, then I (pretty liberally) spray my hair with the L’oreal Quick Dry spray and blow dry. Not spending as much time blow drying definitely makes hair washing days less of a pain!
When we were living with family Jesse and I’s room was a bonus room above the garage and it got so hot over the summer. They bought us a portable AC unit to use for the summer, which was a godsend. At first, I had a terrible time sleeping because the AC unit ran all night and I’ve always slept in quiet. Well, fast-forward to living in our new house and I didn’t sleep well the first few nights because it was too quiet. I got so used to the hum of the AC unit that I had to buy a small fan for the bedroom to provide some white noise. I got a small 7″ Amazon Basics 3 Speed Fan and it just sits on the floor a few feet from my side of the bed. The fan is much quieter than the AC was, but it helps to have that little background hum.
Being quarantined due to a pandemic, selling your house, buying a new one and living with relatives is a very stressful mixture of life events, so Jesse and I coped by eating a lot of ice cream. And Lay’s Dill Pickle chips. But this is about the ice cream. Richmond has these bomb ice cream sandwiches from Nightingale, and they started delivering locally this summer. There is a 12 sandwich minimum for local delivery, so every 3-4 weeks we’d order a dozen to devour. They have different flavors for local delivery every two weeks. Our favorites are the Chocolate Espresso (brownie cookies with espresso ice cream), Chocolate Blackout (brownie cookies with chocolate ice cream and fudge swirls), and Cookie Monster (chocolate chip cookies with cookies ‘n cream ice cream). They are also now available for delivery nationwide through Goldbelly! So even if you don’t live in Richmond, you should give them a try!

I’ve had my eye on the Starbucks Been There Series Star Wars mugs for a very long time, but I felt like I couldn’t justify spending $20 on a mug. I found myself always pulling them up and looking at them on shopDisney though. Finally, after a particularly rough week of house selling and family drama, I decided to treat myself. I bought the Bespin and Hoth mugs from the collection. There is also a Dagobah one, but it didn’t look as cute as the other two. I kept the mugs packed away until we moved in. They were one of the first things I unpacked and I had my first cup of coffee in the new house from the Hoth mug. I have ZERO regrets about buying these mugs. It was my most favorite 2020 purchase. I use them almost every day and they always make me smile.
