1st Blogiversary: The Incredible Journey

Like I’ve been saying all week, this year has been a whirlwind! I’m so glad that I discovered the joys of blogging and for this experience. Now that I’ve got a year under my belt, I feel like I have a pretty good idea of where I want the blog to go and what I want to get out of it. I’ve posted my goals a few times for the blog, but what better time than now to revisit them?!

#1 – I want to not get overly caught up in making the blog successful. I started this blog for me as a source of inspiration and motivation. I had just gotten married and wanted to be the best wife that I could be from decorating, to cooking, to DIY. Sure some success would be great, I even have getting something published on my bucket list, but that’s not the point. The point is I’m doing something that I love and that makes me happy and that’s what’s important.

– I do have goals to get more readers, and I’d love to one day have 1,000 hits a day on average. I’m not going to pretend that I’m a bloggy hippie just out here for the heck of it 😉

#2 – Even though I dont want to necessarily make the blog “big” it would be nice to make some money off this thing! I pay for all of my projects and decorations out of my “fun” budget, unfortunately I have to pay for new clothes and going out to eat and anything else out of that budget too. Things are a little tight sometimes as far as those funds are concerned, so any money I make from the blog will go right back into projects and things for the blog. Again, money isn’t the point, but it is a perk!

#3 – Making connections! I absolutely love all of the friends that I have made blogging so far and I cannot wait to make more! I’d love to meet more of you, and I’m definitely planning on attending at least one blog conference this summer. It’s almost unreal to have such good friends that I’ve never even met before!

#4 – I want the blog to look better. I love my header and things now, but it’s not custom and it’s not totally “me.” Unfortunately me isn’t very design savvy. I have plans, once I build the revenue, to have a custom logo and header made that will better reflect me and the blog, as well as streamline my image.

I’ve learned so much about myself this past year and have really found a true hobby in both writing this blog and also doing things worth writing about. I definitely have a better grip on who I am and feel like I’m not wasting most of my days. Instead I’m being productive and daily working towards goals, and that makes me happy. 🙂

Thank you all so much for supporting me and I still can’t believe you’re hanging around! 😉

What are some goals you have for your blog? I’d love to hear more about what drives your blogging passion!

Also if you have Facebook and haven’t liked my page, please do so. I’m only 12 likes away from 100, and that would be an awesome way to end my blogiversary week!

  1. I think your goals are great! A good mix of fun/business. I’d LOVE to go to a blog conference this summer…maybe we’ll meet at one!!

  2. Love the goals you’ve set – & I don’t blame you one bit for trying to earn some revenue, I’m in the same boat. A $12 URL & $75 worth of hosting per year really adds up – especially when you’re trying to budget. Hope you can accomplish all of your goals in year 2!

    1. It definitely does! I’m hosting for free through work right now, but I’m also looking for other jobs so I don’t wanna have the blog tied here too much longer.

  3. That’s a great list of goals. I really like how you worded that last paragraph because I highly identify with it. A true hobby of writing for the blog and doing things worth writing about. Feeling productive and like you are working towards goals. That’s one of my favourite parts of blogging- the motivation and dedication to following goals. I never expected that.

    1. Same. It also motivates me to do projects, try new recipes, keep the house somewhat tidy and even go so something a little fun and unique on the weekends!

  4. Great goals! I hope to attend a conference this summer too. I’ve got my sights set on Haven. Maybe we could a group of us together to split the price of a room or something. I would love to meet more bloggers.

  5. What great goals. It’s hard not to get wrapped up in the business of blogging so I love that you are going to try and remain focused on why you started your blog and continue to enjoy it for that reason. I’ve heard, people that blog from the heart and do it because they love it are those that eventually have successful blogs. You certainly are good at sharing great posts and leaving sweet comments…I am sure you’ll reach your goals and beyond.

  6. Good, reasonable goals. We’re pretty much in the same boat as you being a relative new comer to this blog thing. The first year went quick and I learned a ton, but I feel like there is soo much more to learn yet. I’d recommend you pickup an HTML/CSS book if you’re looking to customize your sites look a bit more. It’s not too too hard to learn. We’re planning a theme reboot around the new year and we’re going to try to build the site ourselves to save money.

  7. I think you’ve set some great goals for yourself and your blog 🙂 I’d like to make some money through blogging too, but I really don’t want to have lots of ads and stuff on my blog that I’m not really passionate about. There’s kind of a fine line between being authentic and being commercial – the trick is figuring out where it is and not crossing it!

I had my blog designed by Katie at DreamUp Studios. She really “got” me and I’m still loving the design she came up with a year later. Here’s the URL if you’d like to check out her work:

  8. Love all of your goals! I need to switch to WP.org (soon!) so I can do all the things I want to do. I’m hoping to attend a blogging conference next year, too – we should try to go to the same one!

    1. Yes we should! Jesse and I talked about that recently because he doesn’t want me to go alone (overprotective) and I said maybe Kristen will go and we can room together. He approves of that plan 😉

  9. What a great list of goals! I would love to switch up the appearance of my blog, but of couse, I am not skilled at anything technical haha. Can’t wait to see you cross all these things off your list…I know you’ll do it! 🙂

  10. Hey Sweetie

If you are looking to customise your blog shoot me an email. I’ve been designing blogs for some other sponsors recently for free and I would love to help you out too. I just really enjoy doing it 🙂

  11. Sounds like some good goals! I think I am going to attempt to post twice a week and read everyone else’s blogs when I have time, but not stress about it. Being a good mommy is now #1 on my list!
