Ack! It has just been one of those weeks! We came home Sunday night to no Internet, but lucky for me I used all the pictures I took using Instagram for my blog post and I have a WordPress app so I can write posts from my iPhone. But it still wasn’t back last night which meant no pictures and no blog post. After being on the phone with the stupid nice Comcast people for hours yesterday, we finally got our Interwebz back up and running! But on to the real point of this post, I bought a bunch of stuff for not a lot of money! :)
I’ve been hitting up yard sales almost every weekend and stopping in at Goodwill on my lunch breaks occasionally and I’ve found a lot of great things for the house. Like this $2 canvas print for our master bathroom.
If you remember this post and mood board, then you know I want to be super earthy in the master bath and I think the tree will fit in nicely.
There’s also some new frames on the gallery wall (the silver one at the top and the big square at the bottom). Those were about $3 total and I love them. Especially the uniformity of the white frames with the mix of silver ones.
I plan on replacing the flower in the square one with some of my one art (I just dont know what yet) and some of the frames need pictures or art too, I just haven’t gotten that far.
My stepdad randomly gave me this frame last week. It needs some glue because it’s kind of falling apart and I think I’m going to paint it a fun teal color. I’d like to string some twine across it and clothespin a few old pictures to it and use it on the mantle to add some color to pop against the brick.
Then of course there was the trip to Ikea this past weekend! I came home with 3 frames for the master bedroom, three for the master bath and three for the guest bedroom. The frames for the guest room are for programs from Broadway shows Jesse and I see together, so I already hung two with our programs from Wicked and The Lion King.
I also bought curtains for three rooms in the house at Ikea, but I dont have those ready yet! It takes forever to hem and hang rods!Hopefully I’ll be finishing that post up tomorrow or Friday! But I will give you a sneak peak…
Have you had any yard sale or thrift store luck lately? Any tricks or secrets you’d be willing to share to make it easier to dig through all that stuff? How about curtains? I tried hanging them last night and ended up with 3 holes in the wall because we dont own a stud finder…
That tree print is an AWESOME find, I love it! Great eye!
All of those are great finds! I like that you framed the Broadway programs (I’m a sucker for sentimental art).
PS- I think we have the same comforter!
Yes! When you posted about your bedroom yesterday I thought it was the same one!
That tree print is almost identical to the one on the shower curtain of your mood board! I love that mood board btw. Your framed programs from Broadway are awesome…I heard Wicked was such a great show!
I am in love with your tree print! And I agree that it has a really nice “earthy” feel that will look so nice in your bathroom.
I suck at hanging things, I swear. We do have a stud finder, but Dallas usually just makes it beep on himself. Because he’s such a stud… lol…
HAHAHAHAH lol-ed at this
I love the tree print. It works perfectly with your bathroom design. My husband and I used to go to yard sales all the time. We always had better luck there than estate sells where the prices were much higher.
That tree print is fantastic!
I visit Goodwill fairly regularly because I collect Pyrex, but the other night I popped in and found a fantastic Dutch made nautical oil lamp for $8!
As for hanging curtains…if you don’t have a stud finder, use drywall anchors! Not really recommended for hanging shelves, but for pictures and curtains they work great.
The canvas with the tree was a great find! It’ll be the perfect to your nature-inspired master bath
Ikea is the best place to buy frames – the prices are great and you can get pretty much any size you’re looking for. Plus it’s nice that they come with the mats.
I’m sorry I don’t have any advice for you on how to hang curtains – I always get my hubby to do the hanging! And I don’t have any thrifting advice for you, seeing as I don’t do that either. But there are a lot of other things that I DO do, I swear!
My latest & greatest find is a vintage 1950s walnut dresser for $199. It’s on a delivery truck on its way to my house as we speak. I can’t wait to go home at lunch to see it! And I also found a couple of really nice mirrored cabinets at HomeSense that had reduced prices because they’re both a bit banged up. But nothing that a bit if wood filler and paint won’t fix
Good luck with your curtains!
love the tree print!
Also love the idea of framing the programs- really unique and sentimental art!
i love the tree print, too!
also, let me know sometime when you’re going yard-sale-ing or thrifting! i’d love to come along, b/c aaron hates doing that stuff.
Sounds good! I’ll probably be yard saling next Saturday! Too much to do this weekend
Wow I am loving that tree print. We do have a stud finder, but I generally find it easier to just knock my knuckle on the wall, I can almost always find the stud that way. The sound changes from where the stud is to where the drywall has nothing behind it. But if you cant do that…I second the anchors! Just know that removing them is a pain in the rear!!
I tried knocking last night, but I was unsuccessful :\
That tree print is a cool find. Neat piece.
You totally scored. Only $2 bucks for the tree canvas?
It will work perfectly in your space!
the tree print is amazing!!! i can’t believe the price, it looks super-pricey! it will be the perfect addition
.
The tree print is awesome! Now I want to go thrifting!
That’s an awesome find– especially for $2! I don’t have any real advice for digging all the crap to find gems. Just keep going and keep your eyes peeled.
The trick to thrifting treasures is just to go frequently, and not really be looking for anything specific, just something awesome. Then you sift through quick as you can, because you’re right, most of it is junk.
I always just drill a hole exactly where I want the curtain rod. If I hit a stud, great. If not, I use an anchor
.
YoungHouseLove has great advice on hanging curtains. I’ll get you the link in a sec.
Here it is:

LOVE that tree print! What a great find!
Getting amazing deals might just be one of my favorite things out there! I loveee the canvas you found…it’s gorgeous, and for $2?!?! Can’t beat it!!
YAY! Its garage sale season around here too and I cannot WAIT to get out and find some cute cute stuff for a sweet deal! I LOVE anything and everything tree and I think you are an awesome decorator! Way to take something old and make it lovely again!
Great find on that tree print! And I LOVE Wicked and would go see it again in a heartbeat!
(By the way, I got your pass it on project while we were gone! Thank you so much!)
The tree print is fantastic! I hope you find a small brass chandelier soon, as you know I scored one for cheap, so they are out there for sure.
Hanging curtains…if you can, try to hang them at the ceiling to make your room seem bigger. If your curtains aren’t long enough, you can add a panel on the bottom with a different fabric which will give the panels more of a designer look as well.
This is what I do when I hang curtains that don’t have a stud. I lay my bracket on the wall where I want to install it. Use a pencil to mark the holes in the bracket. Take a drill bit as big as your screw and drill holes threw the drywall where the pencil marks are. Most likely you wont hit a stud, tap in a drywall anchor with a hammer, but don’t blast it, go slow. Now you can put your bracket over your anchors and screw in the screws. I hope that helps!
