Hey there! I’m Ashley, lover of all things Disney, Star Wars and fun. I started Attempts At Domestication in 2007. My office job was boring me out of my mind and I stumbled across a little blog called Young House Love. Ever heard of it? 😉 It opened up a whole new world for me and  I decided to give the whole “blog” thing a try. And here we are!

Jesse is my handsome, silly husband that helps make my harebrained schemes realities. We met through youth group in 2001, 12&15 years old!, and I always had a bit of crush. Our age difference kept us from dating (because it mattered then), so we just became good friends instead. We finally started dating in 2007, engaged in 2009 and married in 2011. As a testament to our mutual nerdness, we honeymooned in Disney World! He keeps me laughing and he keeps me fed. Two most important things in life.

  1. Hey Ashley, I found you via Katie’s Bower Power blog and like your blog. I also live in Richmond!! It was totally by coincidence that I found your blog but I thought I’d leave a note since we’re both in the same area. Happy Blogging! :)

  2. Hi Ashley,
I like your blog. I just found it by reading Buffalo-roam.com. My husband and I also are newlyweds-ish(June 2010) and are looking for our first home. We live in CT. We also love Harry Potter and were at Universal Studios on opening day for the Harry Potter park. If you haven’t been you need to go. It is a amazing!! Butterbeer is delicious. Can’t wait to read more about your first home. Please stop by my blog. It doesn’t have much yet, still trying to get into the regular blogging groove.

    • We went to Harry Potter when we went to Disney World for our honeymoon! We couldn’t resist hopping over to Universal to check it out! :)

      • That’s funny we went to Disney and Universal for our honeymoon too. It worked out perfectly that the Harry Potter grand opening was the week we were there.

  3. Your love story is much like our 2nd daughter’s and her husband’s, who met as kids in youth group and even though they both had huge crushes, decided not to have the typical jr high or high school dating relationship, and wisely put that off til later. But since they decided to wait to date until they were ready to consider marriage, they were engaged in about 6 months, and married 3 1/2 months after that! That was last summer. Since she and her older sister married 19 days apart, it was a busy summer and gave me lots of blog material. 😉 Congratulations on your anniversary and I love your cute house!

  4. Just found you through a comment on YHL and am loving catching up! Are you from Richmond?? My husband and I live in Austin, TX currently but are looking to move closer to Baltimore (my hometown) and four seasons. Richmond is on the list, so I’m curious of what people think of it.

    • I absolutely love Richmond! I’ve lived here since I was 5 and my husband moved here at 12 and we both couldn’t imagine leaving. I think it’s the perfect little city with plenty to do but not as much hustle and bustle. :)

So glad to have you along!

  5. Thanks! I look forward to following you as well and congrats on your 1 year blogiversary! do you know about virginia bloggers? You should check it out! There is a Richmond hangout this saturday actually :)

  6. New follower from Designer in Teal – and a fellow Richmonder as well :) SO happy to find other RVA bloggers!! woohoo!
