A Capital Celebration

It’s official, I have become addicted to Instagram. Everywhere we went this weekend I was taking pictures and uploading them and annoying Jesse hehe… So for those of you that dont follow me on Instagram, here is a recap of our anniversary weekend trip to DC in pictures.

We started our weekend by exchanging gifts after dinner on Friday. Well, I got my gift, Jesse hasn’t decided which gift he wants yet… We found a beautiful black and white print at a festival a few years ago and we’ve always talked about tracking it down again, well Jesse went above and beyond and bought an oil painting very similar to the original print we fell in love with. I love it!

It took us about 2 hours to get to our hotel on the outskirts of DC (in Alexandria to be exact), so by the time we got there we were starving. We went to a cute Mediterranean bistro across the street from the Metro station and split a pesto chicken pizza with goat cheese. Mmmmm…

We rode the Metro into the city and went to the National Zoo.

Seeing this big lion was definitely our favorite part of the zoo.

We also headed over to the Smithsonian exhibit on the art of video games. Jesse is a gamer so he really enjoyed all the old game graphics and consoles.

By this time we were exhausted, so we took the Metro back to our hotel to get cleaned up for dinner.

We went to an awesome French bistro where we had pheasant sausage, duck, steak and a delicious chocolate mousse. We also hit up a local bar for a little night cap.

Sunday morning we watched tv from our big comfy hotel bed and had breakfast in our room.

Then we headed to Ikea before going home. We bought a bunch of picture frames and got curtains for our room, the master bath and the office/man cave. (More on those later this week!)

Jesse and I just had a wonderful and relaxing time being together, away from having things to do and places to be. It really gave us a chance to just enjoy each other and our time together and reflect on what a blessed year we’ve had together.

How was your weekend? Do anything fun or eat anything super delicious? :)

  1. Happy Anniversary! Looks like you too had a blast. Andrew and I keep saying we will go to DC for vacation one year. We have both been with our families but never together. Were all the cherry blossoms in bloom?

  2. Happy Anniversary! It sounds like y’all had a fun weekend. Michael Luke and I took a little trip to Atlanta this past weekend to celebrate my upcoming birthday. While there we also hit up the local IKEA. I am planning to share all about our weekend in my post tomorrow. I’m so glad we both had amazing weekends!

    • It was called Yves’ Bistro, it’s in Alexandria (like 20 minutes outside of the city). It looks kinda like a hole in the wall, but it’s run by 2 French guys that can barely speak English and is delicious!

  3. It looks & sounds like you had a fabulous weekend together :-) You packed a lot of action into a couple of days! I’d love to go to the Smithsonian someday, and it’s been years since I went to a zoo. I think I need to make a chicken pesto goat cheese pizza – hmmmm, come to think of it, I have all those ingredients in the fridge right now….. might have a new plan for supper, thanks! :-)

  4. It sounds like you guys had such a fun time! How exciting! And yay for lions! I love them! I love cats, so it not surprising that I also love big cats :)

    And that pizza looks delish!
